EQ is many things to many people, but above all, it should be FUN. It is the sole reason we play... to have FUN. We don't pay 15 bucks a month to do work. Inconveniencing people due to carelessness takes away from other peoples' FUN. They might not show it now, but eventually careless behavior may encourage them to refuse to group with you in the future, to leave for another guild, or to quit EQ altogether.
This does not really refer to your average low level toon, but to the higher level people who should KNOW BETTER! You know, the people who are too lazy to do anything for themselves and rely solely on someone to wait on them hand and foot. While I commend the majority of people in guild that take pride in self sufficiency, some people just can't function without someone to hold their hand!
While we are not high end jerks who throw you in to 'sink or swim', we do stress how important it is to maintain your self sufficiency, and you will feel a greater sense of pride and accomplishment for doing so.
Self sufficiency may sound like we are selfish butt heads who go out and solo with little regard for anyone else, but this is not the case. It means that you've done your research. It means that you know your toon and play it well even if you're low level in crap gear. It means that you will know better than to train 50 mobs to the raid when you've mistakenly wandered into the wrong room. It means that you don't regularly need invis potions at every raid and expect someone to come get you because you forgot to bring some.
It means that if you're doing a quest you don't have to ask someone to hold your hand every step of the way when you could have soloed the whole thing.
Good:
Can anyone help me with my epic 2.0?
What do you need?
All I have left is the 2.0 Globe of Discordant Energy and the final mob fight. I have looked up all the details.
Bad:
Can anyone help me with my epic 2.0?
What do you need?
I don't know, I haven't started yet, or looked up the quest. I was hoping someone would do all the work for me.
Think about it... if you are on a raid, 50 experienced toons and 1 noob is better than 1 experienced toon and 50 noobs.
We want our members to have the best toons in EQ!
Which toon are you?
Toon A is in the guild lobby lamenting about a lack of exp groups, complaining that his guild sucks because they won't find him a group, or talking in chat channels about how 'EQ is dead' because of a lack of exp groups, while toon B, who is similarly geared/leveled, can not find a group, but is either questing, or out farming and making plat, even if it is in a low level zone, until the chance to form a group arises, thus making better use of his time. Toon B will also have more extensive knowledge of all the zones, having explored everywhere, and thus be able to know where to go to for better rewards. Which toon do you think will make out better at the end of the day? Which toon would YOU rather group with? Even the biggest, best guilds in EQ have times when there are no groups available to join (or already formed their own full groups), and to become the best toon in EQ you must strive to progress despite less than optimal conditions, making the best use of your limited play time.
We want our members to have the best toons in EQ!
The following steps are not so much bitching and whining, as steps to take for personal improvement of your own toon. If you take pride in playing your toon, I recommend taking the following steps to avoid embarrassment:
1. I don't have plat! Can someone give me some plat so I can summon my corpse?
You should have enough common sense to know that you should keep enough plat in the bank for such occurrences, without draining your plat to zero. While such embarrassment may happen on rare occasions for those who do not keep 6-7 figure plat amounts in the bank, I do not expect to see it every 2 days. As an example we had a max level shadow knight asking for plat to summon his corpse on a regular basis of at least once per day. People have their own expenses to maintain. Making your own plat is fun!
If you are in our guild, you have most likely reached a significant level to where you should be knowledgeable enough to go farm something to make some plat. If you are not sure, ask someone! Most anyone will tell you that there are plenty of plat making spots that can be farmed even at level 30. This is not to say that we are greedy SOB's that only think of ourselves, but we would prefer to SHOW you where to hunt to make the best use of your time, instead of sitting AFK in the guild hall wallowing in self pity and thinking of how difficult it is to get a group (and other guild members may be preoccupied with other things). Would you rather be handed $1Million simply for existing, or shown how to make $1Million per week yourself, with minimal effort? You will also feel a greater sense of pride in doing so. You should not be disappointed when you can't find a group within 10 seconds of logging in - there are tons of things you can do solo, for any class. Go out and make some plat! Exploring is also fun! We want our members to have the best toons in EQ!
2a. Will you powerlevel me?
No! It is your duty to learn your class and work for it like everyone else. You can't know your class well by power leveling 20 levels in an hour, then suddenly being expected to know what to do, especially if it is your main toon being PL'ed, not to mention where to get the spells you're lacking and the skillups you're behind on. Powerleveling other peoples' toons is not most peoples' idea of having a good time in EQ.
- However, This is not to be mistaken with fast exp groups, which we highly encourage. If you see us in a zone that you can exp in, and you are of the appropriate level to join, feel free to ask! Participation of everyone is highly encouraged, regardless of level.
We want our members to have the best toons in EQ!
2b. Can I have loot/gear ?
If you ask politely we may help, but we are under no obligation to provide it for you. If I score some loot, I may think that you could use the drop but it is because I choose to, not because you beg for it or berate the guild for its refusal to provide for you. Also there are many good natured people in Callidus who are generous enough to provide plenty of stuff to go through in the guild hall. Sometimes it is packed full with no room! Feel free to go through anything in the guild bank and see if you may be able to use anything that may be useful. If it is marked 'banker only' ask! We do want your toon to be geared the best it can be. The worst that could happen is we say no. Chances are if you ask for something, we may have a simple quest in mind that would win you an item better than the one you asked for. We want our members to have the best toons in EQ!
3. OK, we're going to RSS... Can you come back from RSS and invis me in WOS? ~or~ My invis dropped and now I'm dead!
If you are a class that doesn't have a self cast invis, get some invis potions! Other than see invis mobs (and even these can usually be conn'ed to check their see-invis status, and avoided), there is no reason to die or run a train just because your invis dropped. Potions are instant click (or damn near instant click) so when you see the message 'You start to reappear' in your chat window, you should know to click another potion so you can avoid aggroing mobs you don't hold up your waiting group. Even if you do have self-cast invis (non fixed), it may be beneficial to hold several in your inventory just for emergencies. The 10 plat or so you will pay for the invis potion will be MUCH cheaper than the time wasted on a corpse run or the plat for a corpse summon stone! If you really are dirt poor and need some, send me private tells. I may temporarily provide for you, but expect to be pointed in the direction of where to farm to maintain your own self sufficiency. Why? We want our members to have the best toons in EQ!
4. MM! MM! MM! Anyone doing MMs? 50 MMs today and 50 more tomorrow!
Monster missions are OK the first few times, but after the 100th monster mission wouldn't you rather do something else?
Would you prefer to do Monster Missions from now until eternity?. Sometimes is OK if you're really desperate but wouldn't it be so much more fun to explore? There are hundreds of zones, you couldn't have been to all of them! It is also may put a damper on your ability to get a pickup group, if the person looking for more people for a group thinks that 90% of your exp has been done through Monster Missions, because you are level 85 and don't know the way to Tosk. We want our members to have the best toons in EQ!
5. OMGZ This guild sucks! Nobody groups together! LFG! Why won't anyone group with me? It is so difficult to get a group! EQ is dying!
If you're one of the people who feel this way, it is not the guild who sucks it is YOU. If you want a group get off your lazy butt and FORM ONE YOURSELF! Several times I've seen 3 or more people in guild LFG in chat channels but they still make no effort to start a group. This tells me you're not trying, but waiting for a group to conveniently fall into your lap. MAKE IT HAPPEN!
What's the problem here?
